Websites that make your press release go further

By Publicity Heaven writer Susan Connolly

Sometimes you will have spent hours or even days crafting the perfect press release, only to find that it has not been picked up by any of the media contacts that you have submitted it to.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to guarantee that your press releases will always find their mark – perhaps there is simply no room in the newspaper or radio schedule, or maybe a breaking news story has bumped all other material.

However, you can turn to the web so that your hard work doesn’t go to waste and your business gets the publicity you have been looking for.

Here are four ways that you can use the internet to make your press release go further.

Reddit.com
Reddit bills itself as ‘the front page of the internet’. Users submit links to news stories and articles of interest and the highest voted entries become more prominent. There is a multitude of smaller ‘subreddits’ which may be appropriate for your press release – browse through them and find one that fits your niche and has articles that are similar to your press release. Websites such as Reddit place an emphasis on activity and feedback, so don’t be shy about commenting on other stories you find as you browse.

Your own website or blog
There’s never any harm in adding new content to your business’s website or a linked blog. In fact, Google prefers websites that have new relevant content added to new pages on a regular basis. Adding your releases to your website is also a great way to keep your clients and prospects up-to-date with what you are doing.

Facebook
A Facebook page is a must-have for any business owner who wants to connect with their clients on a daily basis. When you update your page with a new, re-purposed press release, your business’ name will pop up on the news feed of all your subscribers, and if any of them ‘like’ your entry, all of their friends will be informed and you will have a whole new audience who will become aware of your business and your news.

EzineArticles
EzineArticles serves as an article directory. It drives traffic to websites that you link to, when you submit the article that you have created from your press release. Submitting your re-purposed press releases to Ezine articles can really increase your visitor numbers, especially if your article is relevant to something that people often search for. But be aware that EzineArticles and the other “article farms” have recently diminished in value as a source of backlinks for your website, after Google made some tweaks to its algorithm that downgraded the importance of article farms.

In summary…
There’s no reason to feel like you have failed if the conventional media doesn’t use your press release. Websites like those listed above are another way to get your message out there and inform the potential clients about you and your business.

Websites like these simply need the formatting of your press release to be slightly altered so that it looks more like a standard article, and then you can submit.
