The magic ingredient to get more publicity

During a long career working as a journalist and PR expert I’ve discovered there is a magic ingredient that gets you more publicity for your business virtually every time.

It’s simple, doesn’t cost anything, and the majority of businesses forget to add it to their PR.

(That’s good, as it gives you a competitive advantage when you use it)

Plus if you can successfully build it into your PR, you will find it benefits your entire marketing.

The magic ingredient is speed.

To get more publicity for your business, you need to move faster than your competitors.

That means reacting to opportunities faster than anyone else. And giving journalists information they have asked for as quickly as you can find it.

If a journalist asks for an interview at 9am, you should offer to do it in the next few minutes (in fact as soon as they are ready to do it).

Why? Because with a deadline looming, that journalist will go elsewhere for an interview if you’re dragging your heels getting back to them.

When journalists contact you they want precise information quickly. Meet their expectations (better still, exceed them) and you increase your chances of being a long-term contact of theirs. Which increases your chances of getting more publicity for less work.

Let them down and they’ll be reluctant to come back to you in the future.

Interestingly, this concept works really well for your customers too. These days the winning businesses tend to be the fastest rather than the biggest.
