Free tools to find the best keywords for website content
By Paul Green
Websites are a beautiful way to reach potential customers. The simplicity and ease with which you can create new content makes marketing really good fun.
The search engines have upped their game so much in the last few years that changes to your website can now be found by people quickly and easily.
But you’ve got to make sure that the search engines direct the right search terms to your website.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) experts tell us that 80 per cent of SEO is offsite – i.e. links made to your website from other people. Publicity Heaven can’t help you with that.
But the 20 per cent – the content on your website – no problem. And a first smart move is to build a set of pages each containing a specific keyword three to five times.
For example, as a PR agency, the Publicity Heaven team might find out that people are searching for “UK PR agency”. So it would make sense to build a page where that term appears a few times. The same for “PR company”, “PR consultant” and all the other popular terms people search on.
So, how do you find out what people are actually searching for? Here are two tools to use. SEO Book will tell you what’s happening on all the search engines, while Google’s AdWords tool is specific to Google… but since it’s the most used search engine in the UK, that’s OK.
Use these tools to identify keywords, then create new web pages with relevant content aimed at each one. Keep doing this and you will attract more traffic.
