Four free tools to see what people are saying about your business
PR isn’t just about the mainstream media. These days it’s also about what people are saying online.
The internet has made it easy for anyone to have an opinion on any subject and share it to other people quickly and easily.
OK, most of these opinions are ignored by most people. But they are still valid… this website hasn’t been updated for a while but might make me think twice about buying a Peugeot in the future.
If you annoy a customer they can quickly tell other people about it online. If you delight a customer they can also spread the good news (of course they are less likely to do this than have a whinge about you).
It is possible to tackle online criticism so long as you know about it.
Your biggest weapon here is Google. Doing a basic Google search plus Google News is a pretty solid way to find mentions of your business online.
Here are four other free tools you can use to see what’s being said about your business:
Technorati: One of the easiest ways to search blogs only and see what bloggers are saying.
Lexicon: Looks for specific words appearing regularly on Facebook walls (you need to be logged into Facebook to use this).
Trendrr: Find out how much your business is being talked about online compared to a competitor. Set up a free account
Monitter: Lets you monitor for specific keywords on Twitter.
