3 things to do after you get media coverage

By Publicity Heaven writer Adam Constable

So you’ve pitched your business to the media, captured the attention of journalists and had an article published about your business. Congratulations!

But your PR strategy should not end there. There is plenty that you can do to measure your success and ensure that your coverage works hard for your business.

So here are the top 3 things to do after you have had media coverage:

1) Monitor the media: If you don’t monitor what the media is saying, you will never know what is being said about your business. It is important that you collect and evaluate all coverage that features your business. Look for trends over time to discover the kinds of stories journalists are most interested in.

2) Analyse what has been said: It’s essential to analyse how your message has come across and how your business will be perceived by readers. This will help you improve your future PR.

3) Make the coverage work hard: If you stuff your coverage in a desk drawer and forget about it, you are wasting your PR money. In the internet age, media coverage can be made to work for you day after day. Stick it on your website, make copies to give to prospects, and blog/Twitter about coverage. Be aware that you will probably need a Newspaper Licensing Agency licence to do this.
