Where would you be happy to travel for a free one day PR & marketing seminar?

We’ve done a lot of seminars in London this year and clearly there is still a demand for more. We’ll be launching some central London events at the end of the year.

What are the biggest marketing challenges in your business right now?

No massive surprises there. Lead generation, website traffic and getting free publicity always seem to be the three biggest problems when I talk to business owners.

Have you previously invested in professional marketing to help you grow your business?

Would you prefer to learn how to significantly improve your marketing, or have it done for you?

This is reassuring. It tells me that business owners want to know what to do in their business, even if someone is doing it for them. This is good. Marketing and sales is the most important thing in your business. If you’re going to learn about one thing, make it marketing.

One business owner said: “Personally, I prefer workshops without the ice-breaking time-wasting exercises. You have so much useful information to impart, I would rather pay for full-on, in-depth strategy and specific techniques that give real benefit and justify my time, rather than a free day that gives some, but limited, benefit; and therefore less value.”

That’s a really good point, and it’s the reason why I recently launched the two day Intensive Business Focus event.

Martin was telling us about his marketing plans for the business… lots of exciting ideas there, and we hope the PR help will make a difference.

Just had a call from BBC WM, the regional radio station for the West Midlands.

Would I do a live interview this afternoon about this Tesco publicity stunt? Absolutely!

But 5 minutes later, another call from the BBC… seems they have gone for another PR expert instead. Some bloke called Max Clifford… personally, haven’t heard of him.

(actually I’m delighted to be on the same press contacts list as Max Clifford! And the BBC were lovely in the way they ‘let me down’, promising to turn to me for help in the future. Nice people)

On which day of the week would you prefer a PR & marketing workshop to be held?

Right up to the end of last week, “Thursday” was strongly in the lead, then on Friday afternoon, “Friday” and “Saturday” caught up. Perhaps the result of people catching up with their email on Friday afternoon (and those people preferring an end of week workshop)?


Where would you prefer the workshop to be held?

No surprises to see a big vote for Northampton. Our list is very Northants-heavy because of a lot of local networking. I intend to repeat this survey in the next six months as we grow our national list.

Cambridge and Kettering were also suggested, with some people also asking if we could do online workshops.


What do you think is the ideal price for a one day hands on PR & marketing workshop?

Good to see £97 getting more votes than £47. It tells me that quality is as important as price.


Would you will be willing to pay a premium for a smaller event with fewer delegates (meaning your business gets more personalised attention)?

What are the most pressing marketing problems in your business right now?

Other problems included getting past the gatekeeper during sales calls, and generating referrals.
