‘Publicity stunts’

Anyone can have their say on anything

It doesn’t matter who you are, or what you want to comment on, if you are prepared to do something that catches people’s attention (for that read journalists’ attention), you can have your say on anything.

Piggybacking the news to get publicity

Our client T-Enterprise has done it yet again with a quick turnaround of a game about Jeremy Clarkson.
In last weekend’s Top Gear, Clarkson made a joke about lorry drivers murdering prostitutes, generating a lot of media coverage this week.
It took T-Enterprise just 24 hours to create a game called Run Clarkson Run, where truckers get [...]

Pasta la vista, pizza

Somebody tell me this is a joke. Or a PR stunt.
Pizza Hut is changing its name to Pasta Hut.
Er, right.
This may just be a PR stunt as they put a load more pasta on the menu. But renaming a business is something you don’t do lightly.
Went to Pizza Hut last night and it [...]

Silly Season is approaching

August is traditionally Silly Season, when news is a little thin on the ground and quirky stories can get more coverage then they normally would.
This is because of the Great British Summer Getaway. Fewer people here means fewer stories. And it’s a big opportunity for your business. But you need to start planning now.
Surveys and [...]

Our client makes BBC News at Ten

Well, we’ve not been here before.
On last night’s BBC News at Ten, the Wee Willie Walsh game from our client T-Enterprise featured in a report on the continuing problems BA are having at Terminal Five.
You can see it for the next six days on the iplayer. It’s about 8 minutes and 20 seconds in.
Pity [...]

Great viral advert

A tiny part of me wanted to believe this was real.
Great viral, because after I realised it was a gag, I emailed it to 50 people.

Back up your messages with actions

On Monday I bought a fantastic new PDA phone thing… cost me a small fortune… and this morning I dropped it on the pavement and scuffed three corners. At least I created some new swear phrases.
Wish I had a tough mobile like the one just launched by Peter Jones (the very tall one from Dragon’s [...]

If you’re going to do a prank, do it properly

This is a bit off-topic, but made me laugh so much I had to show you.
What do you do when the boss deserves a prank and you’ve got a few hours to kill? How about use up the office’s stock of Post-It notes?
If you do do this at your office, take a photo and send [...]

Now this is different

To get free publicity you need to do something different. You’ve got to stand out.
Pushing a vehicle around to raise money for charity is good.
Pushing the milk float from Father Ted 800 miles, with a bookmaker sponsoring you and offering odds on the vehicle becoming Ireland’s Eurovision entry, is excellent!

70 Daleks

Now this is what I call a publicity stunt!
Probably more real Daleks in one place than any episode of Doctor Who (ignoring the CGI Daleks, of course).

Testimonials

"Within a day of the release being sent to the local press and radio stations, we had calls from both a local radio station where we did a live broadcast and a local newspaper which ran a fabulous article about our company."

Anne Cummins & Jackie Lowe, The Good Tradesman

"I am absolutely blown away with the standard of the magazine. The design, content, printing, delivery, customer service... everything has far exceeded any expectations I could even have imagined. 'Really pleased' does not do it justice, more like 'blown away'."

Helen Murray, SureSlim Kettering & Corby
