Can you piggyback the Monopoly competition?

Monday, April 30th, 2007

The board game Monopoly is running a competition to find 22 towns and cities to feature on a new version of the game. That’s a great idea in itself, but can you piggyback it?

Could you publicly lead the challenge to get your town onto the board? You could write to all your customers, put up signs, plaster it all over your website – and of course tell your local media what you’re doing and why your town would benefit from being on the board.

Pick your medium carefully

This article about businesses on MySpace is nearly a year old, but a good read regardless.

It’s a great example of picking your medium carefully, especially if you are trying to appeal to consumers. If your company is trying to be perceived as “cool”, appearing in your local paper could send the wrong message.

Actually, putting the wrong kind of content in the right medium could be just as damaging – if you wrote in a formal way on MySpace, that would be disastrous.

Are these people sick or just simply ruthless?

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

According to this Wired article, some people bought domain names relating to the Virginia shootings and put them up for sale on ebay.

Sick? Ruthless?

Or just doing it before someone else does?

I guess in a way it’s another thing to consider if you have a major event which attracts publicity in your business… if your product “Zapee” develops a fault, someone could set up a website at zapeesucks.com.

That’s not that far fetched: crushmy307.co.uk
